Broadly, Heather’s research interests are at the intersections of rhetoric and critical media studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from UNC Chapel Hill, with a focus on rhetoric and media and technology studies. She also served as a UNC Digital Humanities Fellow, and received a certificate in the Digital Humanities from the same program.
Right now, Heather is focusing on rhetorics of innovation and futurity in:
(1) Smart Home Technologies (SHT) and the Internet of Things (IoT.)
(2) Public deliberation, digital circulation and memes.
She was recently awarded over $13,000 over two grants to expand her research on SHT and IoT.
In addition to both regional and national conference participation, Heather’s research has appeared in Feminist Media Studies, Present Tense: A Journal of Rhetoric in Society, and Teaching Media Quarterly.
